We believe the craftsmanship that allowed a handbag to survive decades deserves to be cared for thoughtfully — preserving its character, respecting its history and preparing it for the next chapter.
That philosophy led us to GE-WY, an Australian leather-care company with a story stretching back to 1945.

01 — OUR PHILOSOPHY
A SHARED APPRECIATION FOR LONGEVITY
Some things are worth preserving.
Vintage Vault Aus was built around an appreciation for pieces that have already lived a life.
The patina of well-made leather. The craftsmanship hidden in the details. The marks that tell us a handbag has been carried, loved and enjoyed.
Our approach to care isn’t about making vintage look new.
It’s about understanding what should be cleaned, what should be conditioned, what may benefit from restoration — and, importantly, what should simply be left alone.
That philosophy made GE-WY a natural fit for Vintage Vault Aus.
02 — AUSTRALIAN HERITAGE
AUSTRALIAN LEATHER CARE SINCE 1945
A little Australian history.
GE-WY traces its beginnings to George Wyatt, who developed the original leather-dressing formulation in Australia in 1945. More than eight decades later, GE-WY continues its Australian leather-care tradition, with the original George Wyatt formulation remaining at the heart of its leather dressing.
There’s something we particularly like about that story. Vintage Vault Aus celebrates products that were made well enough to endure. GE-WY has been helping people care for leather for generations.

03 — WHY GE-WY
WE TESTED IT FIRST.
Our decision to work with GE-WY didn’t begin with a partnership.
It began with the product.
We tested GE-WY Leather Dressing ourselves on selected vintage leather handbags as part of our ongoing exploration of appropriate care and preservation techniques. We liked what we saw.
That led us to learn more about the company behind the product — its Australian heritage, long history and philosophy around leather care — and ultimately to conversations with the team at GE-WY.
Today we’re delighted to bring the two brands together.

04 — THE VVA APPROACH
PRESERVE. DON’T ERASE.
Our approach is deliberately conservative.
Every vintage handbag is different. Leather type, age, previous care, environmental exposure, colour, finish and condition all influence what — if anything — should be done.
We therefore follow a simple principle:

REASSESS
We don’t believe every mark needs to disappear.
We don’t believe every vintage bag should look new.
And we don’t believe one product or treatment is appropriate for every material.

05 — KNOW YOUR MATERIAL
NOT EVERY BAG SHOULD BE TREATED THE SAME WAY.
SMOOTH LEATHER
Cleaning and conditioning can help preserve appropriate smooth leathers, but products should always be tested first.
COATED CANVAS
Coated canvas isn’t leather. It requires a different approach, with particular care around leather trim and handles.
SUEDE & NUBUCK
These materials require specialist cleaning techniques. Conventional leather conditioners should not be applied to the nap.
PATENT & SPECIALTY FINISHES
Special finishes require their own care protocols. When uncertain, less intervention is usually better.

Because collecting is only the beginning.
Vintage Vault Aus began with a genuine love of collecting. Corina’s Personal Vault is home to the pieces she has chosen to keep — handbags that mean something to her, selected not simply for their label, but for their craftsmanship, character and the stories they carry.
Caring for the pieces we choose to keep is different from simply owning them. Our philosophy is to preserve what makes a piece special, understand the material before intervening, and never erase its history simply to make it look new.
Over time, caring for Corina’s collection has also helped us discover the products we trust for our own vintage leather. Our partnership with GE-WY allows us to bring some of those products to the Vintage Vault Aus community — so you can take the same pleasure in caring for and preserving the pieces you’ve chosen to keep in your own Personal Vault.

07 — LEATHER CARE IN THE VAULT
PRODUCTS WE ACTUALLY USE.
As part of our partnership, selected GE-WY leather-care products will be available through Vintage Vault Aus.
We aren’t interested in filling the Vault with dozens of products. We’ll focus on products we believe have a genuine role in caring for vintage leather — accompanied by straightforward guidance about what they’re for, how we use them and when we wouldn’t use them.
