VVA Family — Tips & Tricks
Shared knowledge. Real experience. Collectors helping collectors.
One of the things we love most about the VVA Family is the knowledge that’s shared between collectors.
Questions get asked. Experiences get shared. Someone tries something that works and passes it on.
This is where we’re bringing some of those ideas together.
These aren’t intended to replace professional advice or the main Vintage Vault Aus care guides.
Think of them as practical experiences from collectors who love their vintage pieces and want to help others care for theirs too.
Start gently. Patch test. Reassess before doing more.
TIP 01
Micellar Water — Worth Knowing About
This one came from a member of our VVA Family — Rhi, who shared that micellar cleansing water can be useful when cleaning some vintage pieces. We thought it was an interesting tip, so we did a little more investigating. And that’s when something became apparent:
“Not all micellar waters are created equal.”
There is good reason why micellar water can help with cleaning. Micellar waters contain mild cleansing agents designed to help attract and lift oils, dirt and grime without requiring aggressive scrubbing. But their formulations can vary considerably. Some are relatively simple water-based cleansers, while others may contain additional ingredients such as fragrance, oils, alcohol, acids or other skincare ingredients.
That doesn’t dismiss the positive experiences being shared within our community. It simply reinforces something that sits at the heart of the Vintage Vault approach:
“Know what you’re using and test before you commit.”
CHECK THE FORMULATION ↓ PATCH TEST ↓ START SMALL ↓ ALLOW TO DRY ↓ REASSESS
Something designed to be gentle on our skin isn’t automatically going to behave the same way on every vintage leather, textile, dye or finish. If you’ve successfully used micellar water on one of your vintage pieces, we’d love to hear what formulation you used, what material you used it on and how it went.
Sometimes the best knowledge comes from collectors learning from collectors.
HAVE A TIP TO SHARE?
Some of the best ideas come from the people who actually collect, use and care for vintage pieces every day.
If you’ve discovered something that’s worked well for one of your vintage pieces, share it with the VVA Family.
Your experience might just help another collector.
